TEN YEARS AGO WILLY T. RIBBS AND STARTING GRID, INC. MADE HISTORY TOGETHER IN BALTIMORE

This past Labor Day weekend marked ten years since Willy T. Ribbs made history, once again, when he chose to compete in INDYCAR’s inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix after coming out of retirement at 56 years old, to race for the team we founded together in 2011, Willy T. Ribbs Racing.

It was tough to put into words then, and it remains humbling to put into words now, what it meant to see my childhood racing hero sit in a race car with my company Starting Grid, Inc.’s name adorned on the side of it.

The historic opportunity came together after watching our driver Chase Austin compete in the Indy Lights Sukup 100 race in Iowa. With some coaxing, Willy accepted my offer for him to race in Baltimore during our post race dinner, when I told him it was a “thank you” gesture from me, as an acknowledgement for all he had accomplished in motorsports.
